Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about renting the food trailer and the smoker. Anything not covered here, ask with the chat button on the booking page or email us.

What is included with the food trailer?

The 16-ft commercial food trailer comes fully equipped: 6-burner stove, flat-top griddle, deep fryer, refrigeration units, prep counters and storage, triple-compartment sink, handwashing sink, hot water, exhaust hood with fire suppression, air conditioning, large serving window with awning, interior lighting, propane and electrical systems, and freshwater/wastewater tanks. Cookware and serving tools are included.

What is included with the smoker?

The smoker is a custom wood-fired build on a towable trailer. The smoke box sits in the center and feeds both cooking chambers evenly, and each chamber vents through its own stack, so the two chambers can run at different temperatures during the same cook. It pulls with a standard 2-inch ball hitch. You supply the wood and the food.

How does booking work?

Pick your item and dates on the booking page and send the request. We personally approve every rental, usually the same day. You then sign the rental agreement online and pay a deposit through a secure Square checkout. The moment the deposit clears, your dates are confirmed by email.

How much does the food trailer cost to rent?

The trailer is $1,200.00 for the first day and $850.00 for each additional day. Longer rentals get better rates: $1,600.00 per week (7+ days) and $2,800.00 per month (28+ days, billed monthly). The booking deposit is $300.00, applied to your total; rentals of 3 months or longer take a $1,000.00 deposit instead.

How do payments work? When is the balance due?

You only pay the deposit up front, through a secure Square checkout (all major cards). The remaining balance is invoiced by email after the equipment is returned and inspected, due within 7 days.

Do you deliver? What area do you serve?

Yes. We deliver and pick up within about 50 km of Hammond, Ontario for $100.00 each way - that covers Ottawa and most of Prescott-Russell. You can also pick up and return the equipment yourself for free with a proper tow vehicle. We serve Ontario only and unfortunately cannot rent in Quebec due to provincial regulations.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancel 14 or more days before your start date for a full deposit refund, 7 to 13 days before for a 50% deposit refund. Less than 7 days before, the deposit is not refunded.

Do I need insurance to rent the trailer?

For multi-day or commercial food-service use we may ask for proof of $2,000,000 commercial general liability insurance listing Hill Side BBQ Ltd. as additional insured before handover. For short private events this is often not needed - ask us if unsure.

Where is Hillside BBQ located?

We are at 3118 Gendron Rd, Hammond, ON K0A 2A0, about 35 minutes east of downtown Ottawa.

How long can I rent for? Is there a minimum?

Rentals run from 1 day up to 12 months through the booking page. The longer you rent, the better the rate: daily for short rentals, a weekly rate at 7+ days, and a monthly rate at 28+ days. Need it longer? Email us at hsidebbq@gmail.com and we will sort something out.

Can I rent the food trailer for a whole food truck season?

Yes. The booking page takes rentals of up to 12 months, and from 28 days you pay the monthly rate ($2,800.00 a month for the trailer). Rentals of 3 months or longer take a $1,000.00 deposit. For commercial food-service use we may ask for proof of $2,000,000 commercial general liability insurance listing Hill Side BBQ Ltd. as additional insured before handover.

What happens if something gets damaged?

A condition check is done at handover and at return. Damage beyond normal wear and tear, missing items, or excessive cleaning are charged at cost on the final invoice.

What hookups does the trailer need on site?

The trailer needs access to a potable water connection (standard garden hose) and a standard electrical hookup. It has freshwater and wastewater tanks on board. Propane for the appliances is supplied by the renter unless otherwise agreed.

Can I tow the trailer myself?

Yes, self-pickup is free. You need a tow vehicle with appropriate capacity and insurance - we may ask for proof at pickup. If you would rather not tow, we deliver.

Do you rent in Quebec?

We serve Ontario only. Unfortunately we cannot rent in Quebec due to provincial regulations. We deliver within about 50 km of Hammond, Ontario, or you can pick up and return the equipment yourself.
